Live Life as the Spanish Do - In Sevilla!

Wells College, in affiliation with the University of Sevilla, offers its students and visiting students from other American colleges and universities a unique opportunity to study in one of Spain's most beautiful cities.

"...if you're thinking about Sevilla, the Wells Program is an excellent choice. At every step of the way I found Wells to be supportive and they provided everything to make our transition to Spanish life easier. The fact that they give you a choice between living with a family or with other students is a big advantage. You will ultimately shape your own social and academic experience, but Wells guides you through." (A.A.,Yale University)

Sevilla, the capital of Andalusia, provides a startling contrast between the old and the new, and reflects the glory of the years when it was the center of trade between the Old and the New Worlds.

The city is dominated by one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in the world. Its most outstanding and impressive feature, la Giralda - at one time the Moorish minaret and now the Christian belltower - has become the symbol of Sevilla throughout the world. As they pass by these buildings every day, American students in Sevilla gain a sense of walking hand-in-hand with history.

Host Institution

The University's interior, which has been completely remodeled as classrooms and lecture halls, still retains the romantic atmosphere of España antigua.

Semana Santa - Holy Week (the week before Easter) - is when the many beautifully crafted and jeweled images of Christ and the Virgin are taken from their respective churches by local guilds and paraded through the streets. Two weeks later, the atmosphere of Sevilla is transformed from the religious to the secular. The Feria, a week-long festival providing a kaleidoscope of color, dance, and music, is the largest and most popular event of the year. Visitors from the entire country, as well as many foreign tourists, come to see what may well be the epitome of Spanish fiestas.

Language Requirements

A student planning to study in our program in Sevilla must have a working knowledge of Spanish, having completed at least one college course beyond the intermediate level with a grade of "B" or better. Because of the selectivity of the program, the student should have a cumulative average of at least 2.8.

"In comparison with the other programs I saw in Sevilla, Wells' program was far superior, in terms of value for the money and in the actual cultural immersion and experiences." (A.B., Grove City College)
