Program Director and On-site Advisors

Professor Miguel Gil, The Director of Wells Program in Spain, is a native Spaniard (born in Zaragoza). He has a BA in Spanish from Rutgers University, an MA in Spanish and Art from the University of Texas, and a Ph.D. in Spanish and Comparative Literature from Cornell University. He conducts the orientation travel for both semesters.

Professor Pedro Piñero Ramirez, a well-known Medieval and Renaissance Scholar, and the Chair of the Philology and Literature Department at the University of Sevilla, is the co-director of the Program and is in charge of all the aspects related to academics while in Sevilla.

The Wells College Program in Sevilla has two local advisors to assist with academic, personal and logistical matters. In addition to helping students register at the University of Sevilla, these advisors also follow their academic progress closely, meeting regularly with students to discuss academic and personal matters. Because Wells College feels that a close advisor-student relationship is important for students studying abroad, the number of students is kept small. The advisors can also help them take full advantage of all the cultural opportunities that the program in Sevilla has to offer.

Orientation

What distinguishes Wells College Study Program in Sevilla from all the others is the opportunity of participants to travel throughout Spain. (Madrid, Toledo, Segovia, El Escorial, Salamanca, Cáceres, Mérida, Granada, Costa del Sol, Torremolinos, Malaga, Córdoba & Sevilla). This trip not only helps our students to be introduced to the culture, but also creates a sense of cohesiveness for the entire group.

"...I thought the orientation period was incredibly beneficial. It was a wonderful way to get acquainted with Spain, its history, its culture and its people. It gave us the chance to gradually immerse ourselves in the Spanish way of life, and we were able to develop friendships with other members of the program with whom we would share all our new experiences for the rest of the semester..." J.Allen, Trinity U

"...the orientation was the best part of the Wells College Sevilla program. I learned so much from Prof. Gil who answered all our questions and kept us well informed. Not only did I see so many new things, but I learned the history behind it all..." S. Chaney, U of Dayton

"...the orientation trip was invaluable. The most attractive asset to your program." L Ardell, Boston U
